Cardinals Get Past Pipers in Game One

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team closed their three-game homestand against Saint Mary's (Minn.) on Monday. The Pipers dropped a 6-2 decision to the Cardinals in game one before game two was suspended after nine innings due to darkness with the game tied 3-3.

The Pipers fall to 12-9, 3-5 MIAC, while Saint Mary's (Minn.) up their record to 11-9, 4-5 MIAC.

Saint Mary's (Minn.) 6, Hamline 2

The Cardinals took a 6-0 lead with three runs in the third and fifth innings before the Pipers found the scoreboard. The sixth inning saw Raelyn Costley and Jenna Rubbelke string back-to-back singles, which set up Megan Rubbelke's two-run triple down the right-field line that narrowed the score to 6-2.

Jenna Rubbelke and Gabby Cook each notched a pair of hits for the Pipers offense.

Kira Krueger pitched the entire game for Hamline. She surrendered 12 hits, six runs, and struckout three.

Saint Mary's (Minn.) 3, Hamline 3 (Suspended After Nine Innings)

The Cardinals came out of the gates with a 2-0 lead in the first inning before Hamline scored all three of their runs in the third inning. Jenna Rubbelke's single and Amber Peterson's walk set up Megan Rubbelke's two-run double that tied things 2-2. Megan Rubbelke later circled the bases on Gabby Cook's single, which gave the Pipers a 3-2 edge.

The Cardinals knotted the score at 3-3 in the sixth inning; where Alison Ciero singled, moved to second on Riley Hall's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Heather Nordlund's single.

Theresa Klinnert pitched all nine innings for Hamline. She gave up nine hits, three runs, and struckout three.

The Pipers will travel to St. Olaf (DH) on Wednesday, April 13 for a 3:30 p.m. game time.
