MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team made the short trek to Augsburg (DH) for a Monday-afternoon bout, where they converted a sweep by scores of 10-2 and 11-1 (5 innings).
The Pipers improve to 18-14, 9-10 MIAC, while the Auggies fall to 11-24, 3-17 MIAC.
Hamline 10, Augsburg 2
The Pipers led from start-to-finish, and pulled away with a trio of runs in the fifth and sixth innings each to lock a 10-2 victory. Gabby Cook and Kira Krueger engineered a Hamline offense that pounded 13 hits as a team with 3-for-4 outings. Krueger led the team with three runs scored, while Cook drove-in a game-high three runs.
Savannah Johnson's lead-off triple in the seventh inning, and second-inning double highlighted her 2-for-4 day at the plate.
Krueger surrendered five hits and two runs over the first three innings in the pitching circle for Hamline, before Dana Rosbacka came in relief for the final four frames to secure the winning decision. Rosbacka retired 12-of-13 batters faced and registered four strikeouts.
Hamline 11, Augsburg 1 (5 Innings)
The Pipers picked up from where they left off with a trio of runs in the first and second innings each, which proved to be enough cushion in an 11-1 (5 innings) victory. Gabby Cook continued her stellar day with a 3-for-3 performance that included a double, three RBI and a pair of runs scored. Jenna Rubbelke's lead-off triple in the first inning highlighted her 2-for-3 outing that included a pair of runs scored.
The Pipers offense tallied nine hits in the contest against Augsburg's four.
Theresa Klinnert pitched a complete-game for the Pipers, as she surrendered just four hits, one run (none earned), and struck out five batters.
The Pipers will resume their suspended game against Saint Mary's (Minn.) from Monday, April 11 at Meredith Field on Wednesday, May 4 at 4 p.m. The game will pick up in the top of the 10th inning with the score tied 3-3.
