MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The Hamline University women's soccer team opened MIAC play with a Wednesday-night bout at Augsburg. Both teams battled their way to an evenly fought first half, as the shots were 6-6 and the score read 0-0 at intermission. The Pipers couldn't maintain their first-half momentum as Augsburg out shot them 16-2 over the final 45:00, which resulted in a 2-1 decision.
Hamline falls to 1-2-2, 0-1 MIAC, while the Auggies improve to 4-2, 1-0 MIAC.
Augsburg 2, Hamline 1
Augsubrg's second-half surge began 1:10 into the frame as Annika Rudolph's goal gave her team a 1-0 lead. Jayla Ponce widened the Auggies' lead to 2-0 in the 61st minute off a penalty kick.
One-of-two Hamline shots in the second half found the back of the net courtesy of Denise Hamdan's first collegiate goal in the 83rd minute, which narrowed the deficit to 2-1. Tali Shradar was credited with an assist on the goal.
Augsburg out shot Hamline 22-8. The Pipers were victim of both yellow cards called in the contest. Lauren Sicora stopped nine shots in the complete-game goalkeeping loss for Hamline, while her counterpart Iz Shuster made five saves for Augsburg.
Hamline will host St. Olaf on Saturday, September 17 at 1 p.m.
