MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The Hamline University women's volleyball team made the short trip across the Mississippi River to Augsburg University for a Wednesday-night bout. The Pipers prevailed in the opening set for the third time over the past five matches, but couldn't maintain their stellar start as Bri Van Well's 28 kills highlighted the Auggies in their 3-1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16) win.
Hamline falls to 3-12, 0-6 MIAC, while Augsburg improves to 12-10, 4-2 MIAC.
Augsburg 3, Hamline 1 (24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 25-16)
The opening set resulted in four lead changes, a combined 33 kills and a .242 hitting percentage. Elizabeth Lopata prevailed down the stretch of set one for the second straight match, as she contributed three kills in the Pipers' 6-1 run at the tail end that secured them a 26-24 victory.
Hamline went on to accumulate a .194 hitting mark over the final three sets, but it was Augsburg who eclipsed a .274 percentage and trailed for just one rally in a span that consisted of 25-20, 25-20, and 25-16 victories en route to a 3-1 match win.
Lopata registered a season-high 14 kills along with a .314 hitting percentage and three service aces. Julianna Boyum had a season-high 12 kills, while Lauren Wilborn came through with 10.
Kaitlyn Kotek registered 38 assists and three kills, while Jenna Rubbelke paced the Hamline defense with 23 digs.
The Auggies were dominate at the net with 14 assisted blocks, the most by a Hamline opponent this season. GK LeMonds and Elizabeth Oster each chipped in four blocks, while Angel Fol led Augsburg with 27 assists and 19 digs.
The Pipers will play two games at Hutton Arena on Friday, October 13 against Lawrence at 5 p.m., and Central at 7 p.m.
