Pipers Fall to No. 1 Gusties in MIAC Tournament Semifinal

ST. PETER, MINN.—The No. 5 seed Hamline University women's hockey team traveled to top-seed, and No. 1 nationally ranked Gustavus Adolphus for the MIAC Tournament Semifinal on Sunday afternoon. The Gusties booked their third-straight appearance in the MIAC Tournament Championship Game with a 5-1 victory over the Pipers.

Hamline ends their season with a 10-16-1 record, while Gustavus will advance to the MIAC Tournament Championship game vs. No. 2 seed Augsburg with a 23-3 overall mark.

Five-of-six goals scored in the contest occurred in the second period. The lone exception was Lily Mortenson's goal at 16:46 of the first period that gave the Gusties a 1-0 lead. It ignited a Gustavus team that rattled off four second-period goals en route to a 5-0 advantage at 13:20 of the second. Haley Eder-Zdechlik closed out the game's scoring with her eighth tally of the season off a feed from Emme Nelson at 15:40 of the second, which put things at 5-1.

Kristina Press paced Gustavus with two goals and one assist. The Gusties out shot the Pipers 52-7.

Maddie Nickell made 47 saves in net for Hamline, while Katie McCoy stopped six shots for the Gusties.

The Pipers bid farewell to seniors Maddie Nickell, Elizabeth Valley, Lucy Hoelscher, Hannah Dorsey, and Mackenzie Kaasa.
