Pipers Pick Up a Pair of Shutout Wins on Day Two of Spring Trip

KISSIMMEE, FLA.—The Hamline University softball team swept a pair of shutout games on day two of their spring break trip on Tuesday with a 2-0 victory over Washington (Md.), and a 13-0 (5 innings) thrashing of St. Joseph's (Long Island) in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Pipers improve to 4-2-1 with the Tuesday sweep.

Hamline 2, Washington (Md.) 0

Hamline starting pitcher Montana Miller allowed just four hits, one walk, and notched three strikeouts in the complete-game shutout victory. Her run support began in the fourth inning, where Abbey Herbert led off with a double and scored off Gabby Tuhy's double to give Hamline a 1-0 lead.

Neyla Olwine set the tone in the fifth inning with a single. She would reach second base on a passed ball, and score off Jenna Rubbelke's double to widen the Pipers' lead to 2-0.

Rubbelke finished the game 3-for-4 with a double, stolen base, and an RBI. Four other Pipers tallied a hit in the contest.

Hamline 13, St. Joseph's (Long Island) 0 (5 Innings)

Hamline torched the Golden Eagles for 11 hits and 12 runs in the first inning en route to a 12-0 lead. The Pipers would tack on another run in the third inning to secure a 13-0 victory.

Sophie Stork allowed just three hits and struck out three batters over four innings of work in her first collegiate start, before Megan Ahlness locked the shutout in the fifth inning.

Hamline pounded 16 hits in the contest, led by Savannah Johnson's 3-for-4 outing. Six other Pipers tallied a two-hit game. Gabby Cook's 2-for-3 game included a three-run home run, four RBI and a pair of runs scored while Josephine Cariveau's 2-for-3 day consisted of a double, three RBI, and two runs scored. Abbey Herbert went a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles. Maddie Johnson, Gabby Tuhy, and Raelyn Costley also had two hits for Hamline.

The Pipers will play Amherst tomorrow, Wednesday, March 15 at the Fortune Road Complex in Kissimmee, Florida at 9 a.m. (ET).
