INDIANOLA, IOWA—The Hamline University baseball team concluded its three-game weekend series at Simpson College on Sunday afternoon. The Pipers dropped their third extra-inning contest of the season in a 4-3 (14 innings) score to the Storm.

Three of the game's runs occurred in the first inning, when Max Gerstner doubled and gave the Pipers a 1-0 lead when Mac Enlow reached on an error. It proved to be Hamline's lone lead of the contest as the Storm responded with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the first to take a 2-1 lead.

The Pipers tied things back up at 2-2 with a fifth-inning run as Tyler Johnson led off with a hit by pitch before he advanced to second base on Caden Erickson's sacrifice bunt. This set up Enlow's RBI single that scored Johnson. The Storm regained the lead at 3-2 in the bottom half of that frame.

Johnson prevailed again in the eighth inning. This time he drove in Braeden Bourne, who walked, off a double to knot the game at 3-3.

The next run didn't occur until the 14th frame as Simpson capitalized on a Hamline error. It culminated with Matthew Marquez's walk-off RBI single that scored Ty Cowley, who reached on an error.

Gerstner led Hamline at the plate with a 4-for-6 game that included two doubles. Nick Zezulka and Colin Schuetz each notched a pair of hits for the Pipers, who outhit Simpson 11-10. Gavin Renwick and Mac Enlow each drew a pair of walks.

Parker Leipzig, Finn Melchior, Xavier Bembnister, and Ethan Smith all saw time on the pitching mound for Hamline, and combined to strikeout 11 and allow 10 hits. Six of those strikeouts belonged to Melchior.

The Pipers will open MIAC play at Gustavus Adolphus (DH) on Saturday, April 1 at 1 p.m.
