Pipers Convert Weekend Sweep of Cardinals

SAINT PAUL, MINN.--The Hamline University women's hockey team capitalized on a weekend sweep of Saint Mary's with a 5-3 victory at TRIA Rink on Saturday evening. The victory continues the Pipers' dominance over the Cardinals, having won 16 of their previous 19 match-ups.

Hamline improves to 4-1-0, 2-0-0 MIAC, while the Cardinals fall to 2-3-0, 0-2-0 MIAC.

Both teams started strong in the opening period, with Saint Mary's taking an early lead at 9:48 through a power-play goal by Allie Urlaub. The Pipers responded with two even-strength goals, the first by Nikki Olund at 16:19 that tied things 1-1, and the second by Ashlyn Abrahamson at 18:07, which gave them a 2-1 lead. Their offense capitalized on opportunities despite several missed shots, while Kendra Nordick made key saves to help maintain Hamline's lead.

In the second period, the Pipers extended their lead by scoring two goals, widening the margin to 4-1. Haley Eder-Zdechlik notched a power-play goal at 5:27, assisted by Nikki Olund, followed by Annika Lindgren's even-strength tally assisted by Brooke Klemz at 6:00. Saint Mary's managed numerous shot attempts, including two that hit the pipe, but were unable to find the back of the net, with Kendra Nordick consistently saving their shots. Hamline won several key faceoffs, maintaining control and momentum throughout the frame.

Hamline secured a 5-3 victory with both teams exchanging third-period goals. Teagan Phillips of Saint Mary's scored twice, a short-handed goal at 2:03 that narrowed the score to 4-2, while Annabel Mehta contributed a goal for Hamline at 13:06 that pushed their cushion to 5-2. Phillips closed the game's scoring for the Cardinals at 18:48, which made the score 5-3.
  Annika Lindgren has been a key contributor with a game-winning goal to her name, highlighting her impact in crucial moments. Annabel Mehta also made a mark by scoring a goal. Iyla Ryskamp boasted an impressive faceoff win percentage of 83%. Nikki Olund demonstrated versatility, scoring once and assisting another goal, accumulating two points. Haley Eder-Zdechlik rounded out the Pipers with a power-play goal.

Teagan Phillips scored two goals for Saint Mary's, while Allie Urlaub contributed a power-play goal, and a 42% faceoff win percentage.  Jenna Kurkowski notched one assist, while Reese Heitzman added an assist.

The Cardinals out shot the Pipers 29-20. Kendra Nordick made 26 saves in net for Hamline, while Celeste Rimstad stopped 15 shots for Saint Mary's. 

The Pipers will face Bethel at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota on Friday, November 22 at 7 p.m.
