No. 15 Pipers Fire 50 Shots on Goal in 3-1 Loss at Yellowjackets

SUPERIOR, WIS.—Despite a 50-15 shots on goal advantage and seven power play opportunities, the No. 15 Hamline University women's hockey team dropped a 3-1 decision at UW-Superior on Friday afternoon.

The Pipers' first loss of 2024-25 drops them to 2-1, while the Yellowjackets improve to 3-1.

A scoreless first period saw Hamline out shoot Superior 12-2.

Both teams combined for 28 shots on goal in the second period, 18 of which belonged Hamline. It didn't result in a goal for the Pipers as tallies from Kaylin Garner at 1:48, and Emma Booth at 16:01 gave the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead. 

Hamline's fourth power play opportunity turned into a goal courtesy of Abigail Chamernick at 8:01 of the third period. Haley Eder-Zdechlik assisted on Chamernick's tally that cut Superior's lead in half at 2-1. The Pipers peppered 10 more shots on goal from that point forward, but couldn't get even as Garner's second goal of the contest at 18:48 of the third period iced a 3-1 victory for the Yellowjackets.

Anna Paulson registered 49 saves in net for Superior, while Kendra Nordick made 12 stops between the pipes for Hamline.

The Pipers will open MIAC play on Friday, November 15, when they'll travel to Saint Mary's (Minn.) for a 7 p.m. game.
