DULUTH, MINN.--The Hamline University women's hockey team closed the 2024 portion of their schedule with a 6-2 victory over St. Scholastica in Duluth on Saturday night.
The Pipers improve to 7-2, 5-1 MIAC, while the Saints fall to 1-9, 0-6 MIAC.

Hamline took an early lead in the first period with a goal by
Erika Broten at 5:37, assisted by
Averie Martin. The team maintained offensive pressure with numerous attempts, including blocked and saved shots by the Saints' goalie, Makenzie Cole.
Emme Nelson extended Hamline's lead to 2-0 with a goal at 17:24, assisted by
Lily Svajgl and
Morgan Wohlers. The period concluded with a flurry of penalties, including two against
Cailey McLaughlin and
Emme Nelson for the Pipers, as well as one against Hanley Block for the Saints.
The second frame began with the Saints winning the initial faceoff, and
Nikki Olund of Hamline missing an early shot. The Saints' Jenna Horvat scored at 2:00 to narrow their deficit to 2-1. The Saints continued their offensive momentum with Morgan Mitchell netting another goal at 8:50, bringing the score to a 2-2 tie. Hamline's offense struggled to capitalize on numerous attempts, with
Emme Nelson and
Cailey McLaughlin both missing multiple shots, and the period ended without further scoring from either side.
The Pipers took control early in the third period with
Abigail Chamernick scoring an unassisted goal at 00:58, extending their advantage to 3-2 over the Saints. The visitors maintained offensive pressure, as
Annabel Mehta widened the score to 4-2 at 12:00, assisted by
Iyla Ryskamp and
Haley Eder-Zdechlik. Chamernick added an empty-net goal at 18:29, increasing the lead further.
Ashlyn Abrahamson capped off the scoring with an unassisted goal at 19:12, securing a 6-2 victory for the Pipers.
Abigail Chamernick was a key offensive contributor, scoring two goals, including one game-winning goal, and posting four shots.
Annabel Mehta also made her mark with one goal and five shots, showing potential in offensive play.
Ashlyn Abrahamson added to the scoring tally with a goal and maintained a positive plus-minus rating of +2.
Jaime Hort and
Lily Svajgl both excelled defensively, each with a plus-minus of +3, highlighting their effective presence on the ice. Lastly,
Nikki Olund has been a strong performer in faceoffs with a winning percentage of 63%, along with a solid plus-minus rating of +3.
Harper Powell made nine saves in net for Hamline.
Hannah Martin led the Saints in blocked shots with four. Jenna Horvat and Morgan Mitchell both scored one goal each, contributing to the team's offensive efforts. Bailey Coole was effective in playmaking, leading the team with two assists. In goal, Makenzie Cole was a standout, making 57 saves in the contest, showing resilience despite the team's challenges on defense.
The Pipers out shot the Saints 63-11.
Hamline will return to action in 2025. They will travel to UW-Stevens Point on Thursday, January 2 for a 5 p.m. game.
