Pipers Defeat Lewis & Clark (Ore.) 11-7

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—Lewis & Clark (Ore.) traveled to Minnesota for their first-ever women's lacrosse game against Hamline at the Augsburg Dome on Friday night/early Saturday morning. The Pipers came back from a 5-1 deficit early in the second quarter, and outscored the Pioneers 10-2 over the final 41 minutes of the game to secure an 11-7 victory.

Hamline moves to 1-1, while Lewis & Clark falls to 0-1.

The Pioneers opened the game with an 8-1 shots advantage, which helped them achieve a 5-1 lead with 11:03 remaining in the second quarter behind two goals each from Sage Swegle and Lauren Elliott.

Hamline answered the bell with a 6-1 shots advantage for the remainder of the second quarter. It resulted in one goal from Courtney Parker that narrowed the score to 5-2 with 10:51 left in the frame. The Pipers out scored Lewis & Clark 9-2 over the last two quarters, which included a 4-0 run over the final 11:14 of the game that locked them a come-from-behind 11-7 win.

Maitland Luksan, Lily Uhl, Nicole Phillips, and Courtney Parker each had two goals for Hamline.  Luksan added an assist, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers to her stat line. Parker paced the Pipers with five draw controls, two caused turnovers, three ground balls and one assist. Uhl led the way with five ground balls for Hamline, who out shot Lewis & Clark 22-20.

Lauren Elliott had a game-high 10 draw controls along with two goals for the Pioneers, while Swegle led the team with three goals.

Justine Case made seven saves in net for the Pipers, while Zoey Hamel-Hyland had six stops for the Pioneers.

The Pipers will make the short trip to Northwestern (Minn.) on Tuesday, February 27 at 5:30 p.m.
