Pipers Improve to 4-0 With Wins Over UW-Stout and Buena Vista

MANKATO, MINN.—The Hamline University softball team kept their undefeated season in tact with a 5-3 win over UW-Stout, and an 11-0 (5 Innings) shutout of Buena Vista in Mankato on Sunday.

The Pipers move to 4-0 with the sweep.

Hamline 5, UW-Stout 3

The second and third innings each resulted in one Blue Devil run en route to a 2-0 lead over the Pipers, who responded with a three-run fifth inning. Back-to-back UW-Stout errors contributed to Hamline's offense in the fifth frame, which put Elena Martinez and Josephine Cariveau on base. Martinez scored off Savannah Johnson's groundout before Abbey Herbert's single drove in Gabby Tuhy, who walked, and Cariveau to give Hamline a 3-2 lead.

Kiana Island led off the sixth inning with a walk, followed by a Mikenna Johnson hit by pitch. Jenna Rubbelke moved pinch runner Madisen Borek and Johnson to second and third with a sacrifice bunt. Martinez reached on an error again, which scored Borek to widen the Pipers' lead to 4-2 before Mikenna came home on Cariveau's groundout to make it 5-2.

Stout took advantage of a Hamline error in the bottom of the sixth, which turned into a run via a sacrifice fly that narrowed the margin to 5-3.

The Pipers managed four hits in the contest, led by Rubbelke's 2-for-4 outing.

Boelk, Montana Miller, and Gracie Bond combined to give up six hits and two walks in the pitching circle for Hamline.

Hamline 11, Buena Vista 0 (5 Innings)

The first four innings resulted in Hamline runs, which included six in the fourth inning that sealed an 11-0 victory.

Bond surrendered just one hit and notched five strikeouts over three innings of work in a winning decision, before Miller also allowed one hit over the final two frames.

Hamline's offense mustered 12 hits, led by Rubbelke's 3-for-3 day that came with two runs scored. Cariveau and Savannah Johnson, who combined to drive in six runs, each went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. Tuhy went 2-for-2 with an RBI, while Herbert drove in two runs on a 1-for-3 performance.

The Pipers will return to action in Clermont, Florida on Monday, March 11. They'll face Rochester at 9:15 a.m. (ET), and Chicago at 11:30 a.m. (ET).
