KISSIMMEE, FL -- The Pipers move to 8-4 in wins against Meredith and Ripon.
Hamline 11, Ripon 1
Hamline softball put on an offensive clinic in game one of two on the day, defeating Meredith College Avenging Angels by a score of 10-1. The Pipers capitalized on Angel miscues throughout the game, scoring all but two of their runs as unearned.
Meredith scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning with a solo home run by Tess Spangenburg, and Hamline responded with a four-run fifth inning that would ultimately end the game. A double by Lainey Wier brought in two runs, and Natalie Seiffert followed with a two-run single to give the Pipers a commanding 10-1 advantage.
Wier, Seiffert, and Abigail Chamernick finished the game with two RBIs apiece, while Kiana Island and Elena Martinez brought in one run each.
Hamline 11, Ripon 8
In their second outing, the Pipers found more success behind the plate - scoring 11 runs off 9 RBIs - and overcame an early deficit to secure the victory.
Ripon got on the board first in the top of the first inning, but Hamline answered in the bottom half of the inning with a single by
Gabby Tuhy that drove in
Elena Martinez, tying the score at 1.
The game remained deadlocked until the third inning when Ripon exploded for four runs, giving the Red Hawks a 5-1 lead. Undeterred, the Pipers chipped away at the deficit in the bottom of the third with RBIs from Martinez and
Josephine Cariveau, making the score 5-3, Ripon.
The game was a back-and-forth battle until the 5th inning, when the Pipers put themselves ahead for good, ending the inning with a score of 10-7. The Red Hawks and the Pipers were each able to score one more run before the game ended with a walk-off inning from pitcher
Natalee Boelk.
The Pipers are back in action on on March 16, when they face Lawrence and Worcester State at 2:30 and 3:15 PM (ET) to round out their time in Florida.
