TUCSON, AZ -- The Hamline University baseball team (7-9) fought valiantly in a back-and-forth affair but ultimately fell to Wesleyan University (6-0) by a score of 13-9 on March 16.
Hamline struck first in the bottom of the 1st inning with RBIs from Finn Melchior and Jack Rheineck. However, Wesleyan answered back in a big way in their half of the inning, plating three runs on a James Marsden triple.
The scoring continued throughout the game, with both teams exchanging blows. Max Gerstner had a big day for the Pipers, collecting a pair of doubles and driving in 3 runs. Tyler Johnson also provided a spark with a 3-run home run in the 4th inning.
Despite a valiant comeback attempt, Hamline was unable to overcome Wesleyan's offensive outburst. The Cardinals added runs in six different innings, with Marsden leading the way with a triple, a home run, and 4 RBIs.
The Pipers will look to bounce back in their next game on Tuesday, March 19th, when they travel to take on North Central University.
