Pipers Drop a Pair to Cobbers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.—The Hamline University baseball team dropped a pair of games to Concordia (Minn.) by scores of 3-2 (11 Innings) and 11-3 (8 Innings) at CHS Field on Saturday.

The Pipers fall to 9-15, 2-4 MIAC, while the Cobbers improve to 6-14, 3-3 MIAC.

Concordia 3, Hamline 2 (11 Innings) (Game One)

Caden Erickson led off the fourth inning with a single before he scored the game's first run off Finn Melchior's double, which gave Hamline a 1-0 lead. The Cobbers answered with a run in the top of the fifth inning courtesy of Dorsey's double that sent home Kloster, who led off with a single, to even the score at 1-1. A bases loaded hit by pitch in the sixth frame gave Concordia a 2-1 advantage. Erickson scored his second run of the game in the bottom half of the sixth, where he led off with a single, stole second, took third on a wild pitch, and went home off Mac Enlow's double to tie the score at 2-2.

That 2-2 margin remained until the top of the 11th inning, when a Piper error turned into a Concordia run that eventually resulted in a 3-2 win.

Hamline outhit Concordia 9-8.

Erickson went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two stolen bases, while Tyler Johnson turned in a 2-for-5 outing. Melchior, Enlow, and Jacob Barmore doubled.

Conor Mestemacher allowed five hits, one run, and notched five strikeouts. Josh Cary and Dalton Maxwell combined to notch three strikeouts and allow three hits and two runs in relief.

Concordia 11, Hamline 3 (8 Innings) (Game Two)

A five-run first inning gave Concordia enough cushion in an 11-3 victory over Hamline.

The Cobbers narrowly outhit the Pipers 10-9. Tyler Johnson finished with a 3-for-4 outing at the dish, which consisted of two RBI. Mac Enlow's 3-for-4 performance included a double, while Braeden Bourne rounded out the multi-hit Pipers with a 2-for-4 game along with a run scored. Colin Schuetz contributed a double, and a run.

The Pipers utilized six different pitchers in the contest.

Hamline will host Saint John's (Minn.) at CHS Field on Monday, April 8 at 2:30 p.m.
