Pipers Split With MIAC Regular Season Champion Oles

NORTHFIELD, MINN.—The Hamline University baseball team traveled to 2024 MIAC Regular Season Champion St. Olaf (DH) for their final road games of the season. The Pipers dropped a 12-1 decision in game one, and came through convincing 7-2 upset in game two.

The split sends Hamline's record to 15-22, 7-11 MIAC, their most wins in a season since 2019. St. Olaf ends the day 26-11, 16-2 MIAC.

St. Olaf 12, Hamline 1 (Game One)

The Pipers mustered just three hits in the contest. Two of them belonged to Braeden Bourne, who finished 2-for-3 with a double. Nick Zezulka, who scored Hamline's lone run of the game in the fifth inning when Max Gerstner reached on a fielder's choice, finished 1-for-2 with a double and a walk. Two walks were drawn by Finn Melchior.

Conor Mestemacher, Xavier Bembnister, and Luke Schmaedeke combined to allow 14 hits on the pitching mound for Hamline. All nine St. Olaf starters contributed a hit, led by three apiece from Sam Lavin and Evan Hammonds.

Hamline 7, St. Olaf 2 (Game Two)

Five different pitchers were utilized by Hamline in Dalton Maxwell, Parker Leipzig, Hans Christensen V, Carter Hoff, and Josh Cary. They combined to allow just two runs, eight hits, and notch five strikeouts, while not surrendering a single extra base hit. Hans Christensen V, who allowed two hits throughout the fifth and sixth innings, picked up the winning decision in relief.  

Hamline, who out hit St. Olaf 10-8 in the contest, led from start-to-finish. This included a 7-0 advantage through 6 1/2 innings.

Mac Enlow went 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Finn Melchior finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Braeden Bourne, who also scored two runs, registered an RBI double.

The Oles got two hits apiece from Matthew Kulesa, Sam Lavin, Joey Glampe, and Cole Pleimann.

The Pipers will conclude their 2024 regular season against Gustavus Adolphus (DH) at CHS Field on Saturday, May 4 at 6:30 p.m.
