Softball Secures Road Split With Auggies in 2024 Season Finale

MINNEAPOLIS, MINN.—The. Hamline University softball team split a pair of games at Augsburg (DH) in their 2024 season finale on Saturday, losing game one 7-6 (8 innings), and winning game two 3-0.

The Pipers conclude 2024 with a 16-20 record, while the Auggies end their season with a 26-14 record.

Augsburg 7, Hamline 6 (8 Innings) (Game One)

The game's second and final lead change went in Augsburg's favor, as they dug themselves out of a 6-2 hole with five unanswered runs throughout the final four frames to secure a 7-6 (8 innings) victory.

Each team had nine hits. Seven of the game's 13 runs came off a home run, with each team hitting two. 

Madisen Borek went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the second inning, while Abigail Chamernick's 1-for-2 outing included a two-run home run in the fourth inning. Jenna Rubbelke finished 2-for-4 with a triple, and two runs scored. Mikenna Johnson was also 2-for-4.

Montana Miller and Gracie Bond combined to allow nine hits and seven runs (five earned) in the circle for the Pipers.

Hamline 3, Augsburg 0 (Game Two)

All three Hamline runs occurred in the second inning, where Madisen Borek and Mikenna Johnson each reached on singles. Borek gave the Pipers a 1-0 lead off Chamernick's single. Chamernick and Johnson each scored off Maddie Johnson's single, which widened the margin to 3-0.

Natalee Boelk surrendered six hits and notched two strikeouts in a complete-game pitching victory for the Pipers, who out hit the Auggies 7-6. 

Maddie Johnson finished 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored.
