Green Knights Get Through No. 11 Pipers

SAINT PAUL, MINN.--The No. 11 Hamline University women's hockey team saw a four-game win streak come to an end following a 4-2 loss  to St. Norbert at TRIA Rink on Friday night.

The Pipers fall to 9-3-0, while the Green Knights improve to 12-2-0.

St. Norbert 4, Hamline 2

The first period began with the Green Knights taking an early lead, as Tristan Wicklund scored at 1:28 with assists from Natalie Hogan and Claire Healy. St. Norbert dominated the early minutes, winning multiple faceoffs and attempting several shots, though many were saved by Hamline goalie, Kendra Nordick. The Pipers responded with a series of offensive attempts, notably during a power play initiated by a penalty on Natalie Hogan at the 5:00 mark, but failed to convert any shots into goals. Despite multiple saves by both goalies, the period ended with the Green Knights leading 1-0.

The second period saw the Green Knights winning three early faceoffs, setting the tone for their control over the puck. The Pipers had a series of missed shots, with Iyla Ryskamp and Averie Martin both unable to find the net against the Green Knights' goalkeeper, Keira Markell. The Green Knights capitalized on their possession with Sydney Zurawik scoring at 10:14, quickly followed by Jo Mahlum's goal at 12:30, extending their lead. Hamline registered with a goal courtesy of Haley Eder-Zdechlik at 10:40, but it was not enough to overcome the Green Knights' advantage, with the period ending 3-1 in favor of the visitors.

The third frame began with the Green Knights winning the initial faceoff, but Courtnie Hogan's penalty for cross-checking at 00:57 gave Hamline an early power play opportunity. Despite numerous attempts, including shots by Emme Nelson and Cailey McLaughlin, the Pipers were unable to capitalize on the power play. Later, Abigail Chamernick scored an even-strength, unassisted goal for Hamline at 14:14, which narrowed their deficit to 3-2. However, the Green Knights secured their victory with an empty-net goal by Lexi Bonfe at 19:27, concluding the game with a score of 4-2.

Abigail Chamernick and Haley Eder-Zdechlik both contributed goals for the Pipers. Nikki Olund was effective in faceoffs, winning 70% of her attempts, while Ashley Grabau led the team in this category with a 75% win rate. On the defensive end, Erika Broten was a key player, leading the team with nine blocked shots. Kendra Nordick stopped 19 shots in net for Hamline.

The Pipers out shot the Green Knights 30-23.

Lexi Bonfe was a standout for the Green Knights, recording one goal and maintaining a plus-minus of three, indicating her positive impact on the ice. Jo Mahlum contributed significantly with one goal, including the game winner, showcasing her ability to score in crucial moments. Tristan Wicklund and Sydney Zurawik each netted one goal, adding depth to the team's offensive efforts. Kelsey Ross paced the team in assists with two and achieved a faceoff win percentage of 55.
