SAINT PAUL, MINN.-- The Hamline University women's hockey team secured a 6-0 shutout victory over St. Catherine at Drake Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The Pipers, who now sport a 14-game unbeaten streak on the Wildcats, improve to 15-8-0, 10-6-0 MIAC. The Wildcats fall to 5-17-1, 3-13-0 MIAC.
Hamline 6, St. Catherine 0
The first period saw a significant amount of action but ended with only one goal scored. Hamline's
Emme Nelson scored the lone goal at 10:05, assisted by
Calie Peterson and
Averie Martin, marking her fifth goal of the season. The Pipers dominated the early faceoffs and had a series of missed shots, with several saves made by the Wildcats' goalie, Lea Grassia. St. Catherine had their own opportunities, including a power play following a slashing penalty on
Brooke Klemz, but were unable to capitalize, leaving the score at 1-0 in favor of Hamline.
The second frame began with the Pipers dominating the faceoff, leading to an early shot by
Haley Eder-Zdechlik that was saved by the Wildcats' Lea Grassia. Hamline capitalized on a power play opportunity when
Iyla Ryskamp scored at 4:30, assisted by
Kylie Huseth and
Emme Nelson, marking her 10th goal of the season. Ryskamp struck again at 6:53 with an even-strength goal, assisted by Eder-Zdechlik and Huseth, increasing her season tally to 11 goals.
Ashlyn Abrahamson added to Hamline's lead with a goal at 12:11, assisted by Eder-Zdechlik, bringing the score to 4-0 by the end of the period.
At 12:10 of the third period,
Haley Eder-Zdechlik scored an even-strength goal with assists from
Ashlyn Abrahamson and
Abigail Chamernick, bringing the Pipers' lead to 5-0. With 1:36 remaining,
Abigail Chamernick received a two-minute penalty for roughing, giving St. Catherine a power play opportunity. However,
Haley Eder-Zdechlik capitalized on an empty net, scoring a short-handed goal at 19:29 to conclude the game with a 6-0 victory for Hamline.
Iyla Ryskamp led the Pipers with two goals, including a power-play tally, and a plus-minus of +3.
Ashlyn Abrahamson contributed with one goal and one assist, maintaining a +3 plus-minus and a 66% face-off win rate.
Emme Nelson was notable for her two points, including a game-winning score, and a 75% success rate in face-offs.
Haley Eder-Zdechlik registered four points on two goals and two assists, boasting a team-leading +4 in plus-minus.
Kendra Nordick made 16 saves in her fifth shutout win of the season in net. Hamline outshot St. Catherine 28-16.
Paige Loidolt led the Wildcats with a faceoff win percentage of 61, securing 11 wins while losing seven. On the defensive side, Samantha Bogen and Aubree McDonagh each had two blocked shots, contributing to the team's defensive efforts. In goal, Lea Grassia made 22 saves while allowing five goals.
The Pipers will travel to travel to No. 3 Gustavus Adolphus on Friday, February 21. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
