SAINT PAUL, MINN.--The Hamline University women's basketball team defeated Macalester 63-44 at Hutton Arena on Saturday afternoon. This victory marked Hamline's 10th win in their last 12 meetings with Macalester, further solidifying their recent dominance in the rivalry.
The Pipers improve to 15-6, 10-4 MIAC, while the Scots fall to 10-11, 5-9 MIAC.

In the first quarter,
Kate Trachsel set the tone early with a 3-pointer at the 9:50 mark, assisted by
Camille Cummings. Peyton Starks of the Scots responded with a 3-pointer to level the score at 3-3. Hamline's
Anna Rynkiewich made a significant play with a layup at 8:05, pushing the score to 8-5.
Lauren Cooper added another 3-pointer for Hamline, assisted by
Yasmeen Abed, extending the lead to 11-9 with 4:34 on the clock. Despite Macalester's efforts, the Pipers maintained their lead with another 3-pointer from
Kate Trachsel at 3:39, followed by a jumper from
Camille Cummings, ending the quarter with Hamline leading 18-12.
The second period saw Hamline take an early lead with
Yasmeen Abed scoring a layup at the start. The Scots struggled with turnovers, with Sydnee Smith and Jessica Sabbagh each committing one, allowing the Pipers to capitalize with a jumper by
Camille Cummings, assisted by
Lauren Cooper, which widened the score to 22-12 with 7:59 left in the frame. Macalester fought back with a 3-pointer from Kendall Bernbaum and another from Camille Samuel, narrowing the gap to 22-20 at 3:30. However, Hamline maintained their advantage with
Yasmeen Abed adding points late in the quarter, and
Lauren Cooper contributing free throws, ending the period with the Pipers leading 29-22.
The Pipers outscored the Scots 17-5 in the third frame, starting with a layup from
Anna Rynkiewich at 9:43.
Yasmeen Abed contributed significantly to Hamline's offense with a jumper and a fast-break layup, while
Lauren Cooper added a 3-pointer at 3:24, making the score 42-22. Macalester struggled offensively, missing several 3-point attempts and managing only two field goals, both by Katherine Norquist. Hamline's defense was active, forcing five turnovers and securing 17 rebounds. Notably, the Pipers collected 24 offensive rebounds throughout the game, the most in a single game since December 19, 2009, when they grabbed 28 against North Central (Ill.).

In the fourth quarter, both teams scored 17 points, resulting in a final score of 63-44 in favor of Hamline. The frame started with Macalester committing three fouls in quick succession, with Katherine Norquist particularly active on both ends, contributing with a steal and several defensive rebounds.
Yasmeen Abed made a notable impact, scoring a layup and converting free throws early on. Peyton Starks of the Scots scored a 3-pointer with 4:51 left on the clock, but Hamline maintained their lead through consistent scoring, including a late 3-pointer by
Isabella Jensen, and an assist from
Kate Van Helden.
Yasmeen Abed led the Pipers with 15 points, hitting 6-of-12 field goals and securing four steals in the game.
Kate Trachsel contributed significantly from beyond the arc, making 3-of-7 three-point attempts and adding 10 points.
Lauren Cooper also recorded 10 points, making 2-of-4 three-point shots and providing four rebounds.
Anna Rynkiewich stood out defensively with two steals, complementing her four-point performance and four total rebounds.
Katherine Norquist led the Scots with a standout performance, recording 16 points on six-for-eight shooting. She also contributed four assists and three steals, highlighting her well-rounded game. Peyton Starks was a key player, adding eight points and leading the team with six rebounds, while also recording two steals and one block. Mary Daley made significant contributions on defense with two steals and added five points to the scoreboard.Â
