Pipers Fall to Norse, Demolish Rams on Day One of Rochester Games

ROCHESTER, MINN.--The Hamline University softball team split a pair of games on day one of Rochester Games on Saturday, falling to Luther 7-6 and rebounding with an 11-1 trouncing of North Central (Minn.).

Luther 7, Hamline 6 (Game One)

Among the standout players for the Pipers was Maddie Johnson, who led the offensive efforts with a 2-for-4 outing that included a home run, two runs, one RBI, and a stolen base. Mikenna Johnson demonstrated consistency at the plate, going 3-for-3 with one RBI. Abbey Herbert provided a key pinch-hit double, driving in two runs. On the pitching side, Dana Rosbacka threw three innings, striking out three, despite allowing six hits and three earned runs. Gabby Tuhy added strength at first base with two hits and one RBI in four at-bats. 

Natalee Boelk tossed three innings in relief for Hamline, conceding three hits and three runs, two earned, with three walks and no strikeouts, while facing 16 batters.

Raven Allen led the Norse with a standout performance, going 4-for-4, including two doubles and one RBI, and scoring four runs. She also contributed defensively with four assists. Madi Elwood added to the team's offensive efforts with two RBIs from one hit and scored one run. Riley Sauser was effective at the plate with a sacrifice fly, and walk. Olivia Engler pitched five innings, allowing 11 hits and four runs, with three earned runs, while striking out two batters.

Hamline 11, North Central 1 (5 innings) (Game Two)

Abbey Herbert led the Pipers with an impressive performance, hitting a home run and driving in three runs in her 2-for-3 outing. Savannah Johnson contributed significantly by scoring two runs, securing one hit, and recording one RBI. Josephine Cariveau was notable for her single, two walks, three runs, and stealing a base. 

Montana Miller pitched three innings, allowing just one earned run and striking out three batters to earn the win. She faced 13 batters in total, allowing five hits and one earned run while striking out three batters and walking none, improving to a 1-0 record. Allison Boynton pitched two innings without allowing a run, giving up two hits, walking one, and striking out three, contributing to the team's pitching success.

The Rams featured several standout players, including Dela Riddle, who recorded two hits in her three at-bats. Catcher Aurora Prettyman hit the team's only home run and drove in one run while also scoring a run herself, managing to catch one runner stealing. Freshman pitcher Add Schroer showed promise with two hits in two at-bats and pitched a complete game, registering two strikeouts over five innings.

The Pipers will return to the Rochester Games tomorrow, Sunday, March 2. They'll face UW-La Crosse at 10 a.m., and UW-River Falls at 12 p.m.
