Cobbers Take Two From Pipers

MOORHEAD, MINN.--Concordia (Minn.) (12-10) secured 11-1 and 12-3 victories over the Hamline University baseball team in Moorhead on Thursday.

The Pipers fall to 5-19, 0-6 MIAC, while the Cobbers improve to 12-10, 4-4 MIAC.

Concordia (Minn.) 11, Hamline 1 (Game One)

The game began with a scoreless first inning for both teams. In the second, Hamline's Caden Erickson singled and advanced to second on a wild pitch, but the frame ended without any runs scored. The Cobbers then had an explosive fourth inning, scoring eight runs on five hits, highlighted by a three-RBI single from Thomas Horan and an RBI triple from Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe, leading 8-0 at the end of the inning.

Concordia added two more runs in the fifth inning with a two-RBI double from Luke Knudsen, extending their lead to 10-0. In the sixth, while Hamline loaded the bases, they couldn't capitalize, and the Cobbers added another run, making it 11-0. Finally, in the seventh inning, Hamline managed to get on the scoreboard when Ethan Smith walked, and Tyler Johnson's fielder's choice brought home the run, concluding the game at 11-1 in favor of Concordia.

Caden Erickson stood out for Hamline, recording three hits in four at-bats. Teagan Yotter pitched 3 1/3 innings, striking out five batters but suffering the loss after allowing three earned runs. Finn Melchior also contributed, with one hit in three at-bats and some pitching duties that saw him give up five earned runs in 0.2 innings.

Concordia (Minn.) 12, Hamline 3 (Game Two)

The Cobbers took an early lead, scoring four runs in the first inning, fueled by Thomas Horan's double and Isaac Henkemeyer-Howe's triple. They continued their offensive momentum, scoring another four runs in the second inning to go up 8-0. Hamline finally broke through in the sixth, with Melchior scoring off Vanek's sacrifice fly, followed by an RBI single from Bentley Casey, narrowing the deficit to 9-2. The Pipers scored again in the seventh, but it was not enough as the Cobbers finalized their tally at 12-3 in the eighth.

Finn Melchior again showed notable performance by driving in a run and scoring once, while Caden Erickson contributed with one hit and a run scored. Bentley Casey provided efficiency at the plate with two hits and an RBI. On the mound for Hamline, Alexander Hokenson started but struggled, giving up four earned runs in one inning, while Dryden Seeley had a strong two-inning relief performance, striking out three batters and allowing just one earned run.

The Cobbers were led by Thomas Horan, who made a significant impact with three runs, two hits, and three RBIs, including two doubles. Isaac Hnkmyr-Howe added two runs and two RBIs, while pitcher Brayden Wolfgram secured the win with five innings pitched, allowing only four hits and striking out four batters, maintaining a perfect 3-0 record.

The Pipers will host Saint Mary's (Minn.) (DH) at CHS Field on Saturday, April 12 at 6:30 p.m.
