Pipers and Cobbers Split

Moorhead, Minn. – In a thrilling doubleheader against Concordia (Minn.), the Hamline University softball team experienced a mix of highs and lows, concluding with a narrow 3-2 loss in the first game followed by a strong 5-3 victory in the second.

The Pipers move to 12-14, 2-6 MIAC, while the Cobbers end the day 15-9, 3-5 MIAC.

Concordia (Minn.) 3, Hamline 2 (Game One)

The opening contest featured a tightly contested match where the Cobbers took an early lead in the first inning when Brooklyn Hofer singled up the middle, bringing in Lily Heskin for a 1–0 advantage. Strong defensive efforts from both teams kept the score stagnant through the second and third innings. The Cobbers extended their lead to 2–0 in the fourth inning when Hofer scored on a sacrifice fly from Morgan MeGuggisberg.

Hamline made a significant impact in the sixth inning with Abbey Herbert hitting a two-run homer to center field, driving in Jenna Rubbelke and leveling the score at 2–2. However, the Cobbers responded in the seventh inning, with Kailee Falconer tripling to right field and scoring on a single from Heskin, ultimately securing a 3–2 victory despite Hamline's comeback effort.

Herbert led Hamline offensively, hitting a home run and driving in two runs. Rubbelke contributed one hit, one run, and four assists at shortstop. Dana Rosbacka pitched a complete game for the Pipers, allowing three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings while striking out one, demonstrating control by not issuing any walks and limiting scoring opportunities.

Hamline 5, Concordia 3 (Game Two)

Hamline bounced back to secure a 5-3 victory over Concordia with a decisive two-run sixth inning.

The Cobbers again took an early lead, with Hofer's single bringing Heskin home in the first. Corra Utash added to the score with a solo home run in the second, making it 2–0.

Hamline responded in the third inning when Gabby Tuhy scored on a groundout RBI by Abigail Chamernick, narrowing the gap to 2–1. The Pipers continued to build momentum in the fourth, tying the game at 2–2 when Savannah Johnson scored on a sacrifice bunt by Josephine Cariveau.

The Pipers took control in the sixth inning, starting with a single from Rubbelke. Savannah Johnson's double allowed Rubbelke to score, and Johnson later scored on another sacrifice fly by Cariveau, pushing Hamline ahead 4–2. The Pipers added another run in the seventh when Elena Martinez singled and was driven in by a Rubbelke double, extending their lead to 5–2. The Cobbers managed to score once more in the bottom of the seventh but fell short, with the game ending at 5–3.

Rubbelke shone for Hamline with three hits, one double, and one RBI while also contributing six assists in the field. Johnson scored two runs and added a double and a stolen base to her performance. Cariveau drove in two runs through sacrifice plays. Allison Boynton pitched a complete game, allowing six hits and three runs over six innings, striking out one batter.

The Cobbers also had notable performances, with Hofer contributing one hit and one RBI, and Lyon leading defensively with four assists. Utash's home run was a highlight for Concordia.
