ST. PETER. MINN.--No. 20 Gustavus Adolphus defeated the Hamline University baseball team in two games at Gustie Baseball Field, first with a score of 8-1 and then 7-3.
Hamline falls to 5-23, 0-10 MIAC, while the Gusties improve to 23-6, 9-2 MIAC.
Gustavus 8, Hamline 1 (Game One)
In both games, the Gusties took early leads. In the first one, the Gustavus scored two runs in the first inning on doubles by Drake Siens, who drove in Chris Knowles and Luke Siegle. They extended their lead to 3-0 in the second inning after R. Hebel scored on a catcher's error. The fifth inning saw the Gusties break the game open with a five-run inning, including RBIs from Siens, Brady Schmitz, and Joe Burns, leading them to an 8-0 advantage before Hamline managed to score in the seventh inning.
Ethan Smith walked and later scored on
Kyle Vanek's single, ending the game with a final score of 8-1.
Gustavus 7, Hamline 3 (Game Two)
In the second game, the Gusties scored three runs in the first inning, with Brayden Kohls scoring on an RBI single by Luke Siegle and Drake Siens driving in two more runs. Hamline responded in the fourth inning with a rally, tying the game at 3-3 through a combination of errors and timely hitting, with
Kyle Vanek,
Grant Peltier,
Alexander Hokenson, and
Ryan Burley contributing to the scoring. However, Gustavus regained the lead with a solo home run by Isaac Becker in the fourth and extended their lead in the fifth. The Gusties added two more runs in the eighth inning, concluding the game with a 7-3 victory.
In terms of player highlights from both games,
Ryan Burley played a solid defensive role as a shortstop in the first game, notching five assists. Smith contributed offensively by scoring one run and drawing a walk. Vanek led the team in hitting in the first game with one hit and one RBI. In the second game, Hokenson stood out with three hits and an RBI, while Peltier recorded two hits, scoring a run and stealing a base.
On the mound,
Parker Leipzig pitched for Hamline in the first game, completing 3 innings with four hits allowed, resulting in three runs (two earned) while striking out 3 batters. T. Yotter came in relief, allowing 5 earned runs in his 3 innings. In the second game,

The Gusties showcased strong performances throughout both games. In the first game, Knowles and Siegle each scored two runs, with Siens driving in three RBIs. Adam Biewen pitched a complete game with 14 strikeouts. In the second game, Siegle highlighted the offense with two runs, two hits, and one RBI, while Siens delivered three hits and three RBIs. Becker contributed with a home run and three hits, and Brevin Goetz earned the win with six innings of work in that game.
