Pipers Split With Auggies in 2025 Finale

SAINT PAUL, MINN.--The Hamline University baseball team faced Augsburg in two games at CHS Field in St. Paul, Minnesota on Saturday. The Pipers secured a 10-2 victory in the first game, but narrowly fell 6-5 in the second contest.

The Pipers end their 2025 season with a 7-32, 2-18 MIAC record, while the Auggies conclude their campaign with a 16-23, 8-12 MIAC mark.

Tyler Johnson, Caden Erickson, Joe Boyle, Dalton Maxwell, Conor Mestemacher, Parker Leipzig, Finn Melchior, and Ethan Smith were honored for Senior Day.

Hamline 10, Augsburg 2 (Game One)

Hamline jumped to an early lead in the second inning when Grant Peltier singled to left center, advanced on a sacrifice bunt, and scored on a fielder's choice and an error, making it 1–0. 

The offensive onslaught continued in the third inning as Ryan Burley doubled, scoring on a single by Peltier, followed by Jacob Barmore's double that brought home both Peltier and Alexander Hokenson, extending the lead to 4–0. The fourth inning saw the Pipers capitalize further with Owen Giesen and Burley singling, leading to RBI singles from Hokenson and Peltier, and another from Barmore, culminating in an 8–0 lead after four innings. 

Hamline added to their lead with a run in the fifth when Giesen's single and stolen base set up Kyle Vanek's double, pushing the score to 9–0. In the sixth inning, Barmore walked, advanced on a Smith single, and scored on Bentley Casey's RBI single, bringing the score to 10–0. Despite a two-run home run by Elijah Stewart in the seventh for Augsburg, Hamline maintained control, winning 10–2.

Peltier led the offensive charge with three hits and three RBIs, while Barmore also impressed with two hits and three RBIs. On the mound, Parker Leipzig pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and two earned runs over seven innings.

Augsburg 6, Hamline 5 (Game Two)

The game began with both teams scoring in the first inning, as Augsburg's Stanley Regguinti walked and scored on Andruw Vela's single, while Hamline's Kyle Vanek crossed home on a Grant Peltier single, leveling the score at 1-1.

Augsburg took a 3-1 lead in the third, with Jorda Sivoravon scoring on a fielder's choice and Regguinti on a sacrifice fly. Hamline narrowed the gap in the fourth with Ethan Smith scoring on Owen Giesen's single, making it 3-2. The sixth inning proved pivotal for Hamline as they surged ahead 5-3 with Kaleb Corcoran and Bentley Casey crossing home, aided by an RBI from Ryan Burley.

Augsburg chipped away, scoring in the seventh to make it 5-4, and then tied the game at 5-5 in the ninth. With the final push, Augsburg scored again, clinching the game 6-5.

Smith had a standout performance for Hamline with four hits in four at-bats. Burley contributed significantly with an RBI, a stolen base, and five assists at shortstop. Vanek and Peltier each had two hits and an RBI, while Giesen added two RBIs with a sac fly. 

On the mound for Hamline, Dalton Maxwell pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out two, while Teagan Yotter followed in relief for three innings, conceding two earned runs. 

Augsburg's Regguinti excelled, scoring three runs. Vela drove in three runs, and Josh Udelhofen contributed with two RBIs. Sean Littmann secured the win with two innings pitched without allowing a hit or run.
