Pipers Sweep Auggies in 2025 Finale

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Hamline University softball team had a strong showing against Augsburg at Meredith Field on Saturday, winning both games 11-3 (6 innings) and 3-1.

The Pipers end the 2025 season with a 17-23, 7-15 MIAC record, while the Auggies conclude their campaign with a 15-25, 6-16 MIAC mark.

Hamline 11, Augsburg 3 (6 innings) (Game One)

Augsburg opened the game by scoring two runs in the first inning, but Hamline quickly responded with Savannah Johnson reaching second on a steal and scoring an unearned run, closing the inning down at 2-1.

The fourth inning saw Augsburg add another run, but Hamline answered strongly. Josephine Cariveau's single followed by Allison Boynton's double brought in three runs, shifting momentum and pushing Hamline ahead 4-3. The fifth inning was particularly productive for the Pipers, as they tallied four more runs with aggressive base running and capitalized on an error, which resulted in a comfortable 8-3 lead.

The sixth inning further solidified the Pipers' victory as Rubbelke doubled and scored on an error, with Martinez and Natalynn Lundeen contributing to a three-run inning, finalizing the score at 11-3. Hamline effectively utilized a combination of strategic base running and timely hitting, finishing with 12 hits and capitalizing on three Augsburg errors.

Rubbelke contributed significantly, scoring two runs and registering two hits, including a double. Savannah Johnson also scored two runs, securing two hits and a stolen base. Gabby Tuhy led the team with three hits and two RBIs. On the mound, Boynton pitched a complete game, throwing six innings with five strikeouts and allowing only two runs, one earned, while facing 30 batters.

Zoie Johnson excelled at the plate with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, driving in one run and stealing one base for Augsburg. Lola Pilon also had a significant contribution with a 2-for-3 effort, including a double and an RBI. Morgan Paaske pitched a complete game, recording 5 2/3 innings but took the loss, allowing five earned runs on 12 hits.

Hamline 3, Augsburg 1 (Game Two)

The Pipers jumped to an early advantage when Jenna Mahnke walked, followed by Savannah Johnson's single that moved Mahnke to second. A wild pitch advanced both runners, setting the stage for Josephine Cariveau, who singled to left field, driving in both Mahnke and Johnson for two RBIs, giving Hamline a 2–0 lead. The second inning saw the Pipers maintain their defensive stronghold, as Augsburg was unable to score, concluding the inning with the score still 2–0.

The third inning resulted in a scoreless tie, with both teams struggling to generate offense. Hamline's defense continued to shine in the fourth, as Augsburg failed to score despite a double from Lola Pilon. In the sixth inning, Hamline extended their lead when Savannah Johnson doubled to center field and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Josephine Cariveau, increasing the lead to 3–0. The Auggies managed to score a run in the seventh inning when Zoie Johnson doubled and later scored on a fielder's choice by Olivia Hennager, but it wasn't enough to overcome Hamline's lead, concluding the game at 3–1.

Savannah Johnson stood out for Hamline with two hits, two runs, a double, and a stolen base. Cariveau's impact was significant as well, driving in three runs. Pitcher Montana Miller delivered a solid performance on the mound, pitching 6 1/3 innings, allowing one earned run on five hits, striking out two batters over 75 pitches. Natalee Boelk earned a save by pitching 2/3 of an inning without allowing a hit.

The Pipers bid farewell to graduating student-athletes Jenna Rubbelke, Dana Rosbacka, Madisen Borek, Abbey Herbert, Lainey Wier, Jenna Mahnke, Gabby Tuhy, and Savannah Johnson.
