SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (13-3, 7-2 MIAC) defeated Augsburg (5-11, 2-7 MIAC), 75-55, at Hutton Arena, capitalizing on 28 Augsburg turnovers to secure the conference victory. The Pipers' bench contributed significantly, adding 49 points to the total score. Hamline is now 13-3 overall and 7-2 in MIAC play with a nine win streak. Augsburg holds a 5-11 overall record and is 2-7 in the MIAC.
The first quarter commenced with Hamline and Augsburg trading early turnovers, but it was Augsburg's Jada Stanford who scored first with a layup at 7:33, assisted by Lani Fonoti. Hamline responded with a jumper from
Anna Rynkiewich at 5:35, assisted by
Emma Lamppa.
Josie Schmidt put the Pipers ahead with two free throws at 5:09, and the team maintained momentum with a 3-pointer from Lamppa at 3:55. Hamline extended their lead to 20-10 with a fastbreak 3-pointer by
Sophie Stork at 0:52, assisted by
Camille Cummings. Augsburg's Melanie Delestrez closed the quarter with a layup at the buzzer, leaving the score 20-10 in Hamline's favor.
The Pipers widened their lead in the second quarter, capitalizing on turnovers and second-chance points. Lamppa opened with a three-pointer assisted by Schmidt at 9:43, setting the tone for the quarter.
Evelyn Wiltrout contributed with key offensive rebounds and scoring, including a layup that pushed the lead to 25-10. Hamline's defense also forced nine turnovers from Augsburg, with Schmidt adding a fastbreak layup in the final seconds to close the half at 40-19.
The third quarter featured a balanced scoring effort from both teams, with Hamline maintaining a lead over Augsburg.
Josie Wiebusch contributed significantly for the Pipers, scoring a layup at 8:47 and adding a pair of free throws with 37 seconds remaining to help maintain their advantage. Saylor Gallagher kept Augsburg in contention, scoring a layup followed by a free throw at 7:55, and later hitting a three-pointer at 52 seconds. Despite several turnovers, Hamline's defense held strong, with Lamppa securing a steal in the final seconds, preserving their lead and ending the quarter ahead, 57-34.
In the fourth quarter, Hamline maintained their lead over Augsburg despite a strong push from the visitors.
Lauren Cooper hit a three-pointer early in the period, extending Hamline's advantage to 60-34 at the 9:24 mark. Augsburg responded with a layup from Stanford and consecutive free throws, cutting the deficit to 60-40. However, the Pipers'
Camille Cummings and Schmidt each contributed key baskets, keeping their team ahead. Despite Augsburg's effort, including a late three-pointer by Gallagher, Hamline secured a 75-55 victory, aided by
Morgan Gokey's layup and
Taylor Starks' free throws in the final minutes.
Emma Lamppa scored 11 points, including three 3-pointers. Schmidt added 10 points and recorded four steals. Cooper contributed five points and collected two steals. Rynkiewich finished with eight points and grabbed eight rebounds.
