Pipers Clinch Win Over Wildcats with Three Goals in Second Period

SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (19-3-1, 13-2-1) defeated St. Catherine (9-14-0, 4-12-0) 6–2, with Hamline's scoring led by a decisive three-goal second period. The match saw both teams incur four penalties for eight minutes each, but Hamline capitalized on its 33 shots on goal to secure the victory.

The first period began with the Pipers establishing early control, winning the opening faceoff and maintaining offensive pressure. Abigail Chamernick opened the scoring at 15:01 with an even-strength goal, assisted by Nina Thorson, giving Hamline the initial lead. The team continued to control the puck, leading to Annika Lindgren's goal at 10:21, assisted by Ashlyn Abrahamson. Hamline's defense held strong, keeping St. Catherine scoreless despite several attempts. The period closed with Hamline holding a 2–0 lead, demonstrating a strong start in maintaining momentum and securing the advantage going into the second period.

Hamline began the second period by capitalizing on early offensive pressure. Thorson netted her 14th goal of the season at 18:19, assisted by Brooke Klemz, to extend Hamline's lead. The continued offensive momentum was maintained through a series of successful faceoffs, allowing Hamline to control the pace of the game. Iyla Ryskamp added another goal for the Pipers at 8:23, with an assist from Grace Delmonico, further increasing the advantage. St. Catherine responded with a goal from Isabel Burt at 4:55, narrowing the deficit. However, Maddy Belisle restored the four-goal margin for Hamline with a late-period goal at 1:59, assisted by Macy Peterson. Hamline concluded the period leading 5–1.

The third period began with a flurry of unsuccessful shots from Hamline, as Kaiya Sandy, Thorson, Averie Martin, and Annabel Mehta all tested St. Catherine's goaltender, Addie Oettinger, early in the frame. Despite this pressure, St. Catherine managed to score first at 13:33 when Samantha Bogen found the back of the net, cutting into the deficit. However, Hamline quickly responded at 13:15 when Delmonico, assisted by Ellie Newpower, restored the lead to four goals. Hamline faced persistent pressure but maintained their defensive composure, with Kendra Nordick making crucial saves throughout the period. Despite several power-play opportunities for both teams, neither could capitalize further. The period closed with Hamline securing a 6–2 victory.

Chamernick scored once on two shots and tallied two blocked shots. Thorson found the back of the net and added an assist, with her goal serving as the game-winner. Delmonico contributed a goal and an assist, recording four shots. Belisle scored with two shots and achieved a +4 rating.

The Pipers will conclude regular season play next weekend with their final series against Gustavus, beginning at home on Friday, February 20 with a 6 PM puck drop.
