SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Hamline (20-5-1) fell to the College of Saint Benedict (15-7-4), 4-2, on Saturday in the MIAC Semifinals game at TRIA Rink. Despite outshooting the visitors with 39 shots, the Pipers could not overcome the four goals scored against them.
The first period began with the Pipers taking initial control, winning the opening faceoff and applying early pressure with several attempts on goal. Despite a strong offensive start, Saint Benedict capitalized at 17:28, securing an unassisted goal from Shae Stinnett to take the lead. Hamline responded with a robust penalty kill, turning a short-handed opportunity into an equalizing goal by
Annabel Mehta at 5:31. However, shortly after the penalty expired, Saint Benedict regained the lead with a goal by Jorja Jusczak at 4:27. The period concluded with the Pipers trailing 2–1, maintaining the pressure with shots and narrowly missing an equalizer when
Kaiya Sandy's shot hit the pipe.
The second period began with the Pipers asserting early pressure, generating multiple shots within the first few minutes but failing to break through Saint Benedict's defense. Hamline continued to control the puck for most of the period, consistently testing the opposing goaltender, Lexi Badali, who withstood the barrage of attempts.
Annabel Mehta capitalized on this momentum, scoring her second goal of the game at 14:29 to bring the score level at 2–2. Despite several more attempts by Hamline to extend the lead, the period closed with the teams tied, setting up a critical final period.
Hamline opened the third period with a strong faceoff win by
Iyla Ryskamp, generating multiple shot attempts on goal. Despite several offensive efforts from players like
Maddy Belisle and
Abigail Chamernick, each attempt was met with saves by Saint Benedict's Lexi Badali. The Pipers maintained offensive pressure, winning faceoffs and keeping the puck in the opponent's zone. Momentum shifted in the favor of Saint Benedict when Bailey Vesper scored at 12:57, followed quickly by an unassisted goal from Shae Stinnett at 12:49, extending the visitor's lead. Hamline continued to press, with Grace Delmonico and
Annabel Mehta contributing to the shot count, but the third period ended without further scoring changes. The game concluded with the Pipers trailing 4–2.
Annabel Mehta scored twice on four shots, leading the team in goals.
Iyla Ryskamp excelled in the faceoff circle, winning 18 of 27 faceoffs for a 66% success rate.
Ella Rothe dominated her faceoffs, winning 9 of 10 for a 90% win percentage. Meanwhile,
Harper Powell made 11 saves, sharing goaltending duties.
The Pipers will now have to wait until March 8th to hear where their fate lies during the NCAA DIII Women's Hockey Selection Show.
