Pipers Split Road Doubleheader Against Simpson

GAME ONE

INDIANOLA, Iowa — Hamline (8-8) secured a decisive 11–2 victory over Simpson College (8-6) on Sunday at McBride Field in Game 1. Hamline's offensive surge included a six-run third inning, contributing to their total of 12 hits in the game.

Hamline secured a decisive 11–2 victory over Simpson, bolstered by a strong performance in the early innings. The scoring began in the second inning when Jacob Barmore scored on a wild pitch after reaching third on a single and advancing on a hit from Kyle Vanek. This put the Pipers ahead 1–0.

The third inning saw the Pipers extend their lead significantly. Alex Hokenson scored on a sacrifice fly by Owen Giesen. A passed ball allowed Maddex Van Slooten to score, followed by a series of events where Barmore scored on an error, and subsequent wild pitches allowed Vanek and Dane Damson to score. Jack Rheineck's single brought another run home, ending the inning with Hamline leading 7–0.

Simpson responded in the fourth inning with two unearned runs, narrowing the gap to 7–2. However, Hamline's defense and pitching held strong, shutting out Simpson for the remainder of the game.

In the seventh inning, the Pipers solidified their lead. Kaleb Corcoran, who pinch ran for Grant Peltier, scored on a single by Damson. Rheineck then delivered a three-RBI double, driving in Barmore, Eli Gilbertson, and Vanek, extending the lead to 11–2.

Hamline's pitching staff, led by Hans Christensen, maintained control throughout, limiting Simpson to only two runs. The game concluded with Hamline claiming an 11–2 victory over Simpson.

Rheineck led the team with four RBIs, including a double with the bases loaded. Damson added two hits and two RBIs, contributing significantly to the offensive effort. Christensen excelled on the mound, pitching 7 innings, allowing just three hits, and striking out seven batters. Barmore scored three runs and collected two hits, bolstering the team's scoring opportunities.

Hans Christensen demonstrated strong pitching for Hamline, delivering 7 innings with no earned runs while scattering three hits and striking out seven batters. He efficiently managed his pitch count, throwing 96 pitches with 68 strikes, achieving a WHIP of 0.57. Ben McCrady provided solid relief, pitching 2 innings with two strikeouts, allowing two hits, and maintaining a WHIP of 1.00. Both pitchers kept Simpson scoreless during their time on the mound, contributing to the team's defensive effort.

GAME TWO

Hamline (8-9) fell to Simpson College (9-6) with a final score of 4-0 at McBride Field on Sunday in Game 2. Hamline managed just one hit over nine innings, while Simpson capitalized on three errors to secure the win.

Simpson took the lead in the fourth inning when Sam Campin singled and advanced on a wild pitch before being driven in by Jacob Roberts, who singled and advanced to second on an error. This gave Simpson a 1-0 lead through four innings.

Simpson extended its lead in the fifth inning. Trenten Kingrey singled and advanced to second on an error before scoring on Preston Glatt's single, making it 2-0 for Simpson through five innings.

The seventh inning saw Simpson add two more runs. Bryson Gibson and Glatt both walked, and a bunt single by Campin loaded the bases. Kasey Carter reached on a fielder's choice, driving in two runs to increase the lead to 4-0.

Hamline was unable to capitalize on its opportunities throughout the game, with Maddex Van Slooten reaching base twice via hit by pitch and stealing two bases, but ultimately left stranded.

Maddex Van Slooten showcased his aggressive baserunning by stealing two bases and accumulated four assists in the field. Jacob Barmore contributed offensively with a hit and a walk, posting an OPS of .833. Teagan Yotter pitched 5 innings, allowing 7 hits and 2 runs while striking out 2 batters and walking 2, recording a WHIP of 1.80. Carter Hoff made an impact in relief by pitching 2 innings, striking out 3, and allowing just 1 hit.
