SAINT PAUL, Minn. — Hamline University faced Macalester College in a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a loss in game one and a suspended contest in game two. The Pipers fell 7–4 in the opener, while the second game was halted in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied 4–4 due to rain.
GAME ONE
Hamline (4–17) took an early lead in game one, scoring a run in the first inning and adding three more in the third. However, Macalester (14–9) responded with a decisive three-run seventh inning to secure the victory. Elena Martinez put Hamline on the board in the first inning, scoring on a groundout by Maddie Johnson to give the Pipers a 1–0 lead. Macalester tied the game in the second inning when Dylan Tapia scored on a double by Alli Johnson.
The third inning saw a back-and-forth battle. Macalester took a 4–1 lead with a three-run homer by Tapia, but Hamline responded. Martinez scored on a double by Maddie Johnson, followed by Josephine Cariveau and Maddie Johnson scoring on a single by Brennan Reid to tie the game at 4–4. After a series of scoreless innings, Macalester clinched the win with a three-run homer by Callia Holland in the seventh inning.
Elena Martinez scored two runs and added a hit while drawing a walk. Maddie Johnson drove in two runs with a double, and Brennan Reid tallied two RBIs. Natalee Boelk pitched a complete game, recording two strikeouts over 7 innings while allowing 7 earned runs on 14 hits, including two home runs, and issuing no walks.
GAME TWO
Game two was suspended in the bottom of the fifth inning with the score tied 4–4 and will be completed at a later date.
Hamline scored two runs in both the first and fifth innings, while Macalester responded with three runs in the third. The Pipers started strong, with Elena Martinez walking and advancing to third on an error. Josephine Cariveau reached second on the same error, and Maddie Johnson singled to score Martinez, followed by Cariveau scoring on a wild pitch to give Hamline a 2–0 advantage.
Macalester took the lead in the third inning with a two-run double by Tess Bojorquez and another run on a groundout, making it 4–2. Hamline fought back in the fifth inning, as Josephine Cariveau and Maddie Johnson both singled. Brennan Reid doubled to right center, driving in both runners and leveling the score at 4–4 before play was halted due to weather.
Josephine Cariveau scored twice and recorded a hit. Maddie Johnson contributed two hits and one RBI, while Elena Martinez added one hit, one run, and a stolen base. Brennan Reid posted a hit and two RBIs.
On the mound, Allison Boynton pitched 2 innings, allowing 3 earned runs on 3 hits, striking out one and walking four. Montana Miller took over for 3 innings, conceding 1 earned run on 4 hits with one strikeout and one walk.
