ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Hamline University softball team (7-32, 4-19) faced St. Catherine University (23-18, 12-10) in a doubleheader on Saturday, suffering defeats in both games with scores of 13–5 and 9–0.
In the first game, Hamline collected 10 hits, including a double, but struggled defensively with six errors that contributed to St. Catherine's scoring advantage.
Brennan Reid,
Mikenna Johnson, and
Julia Sina each singled in the second inning, setting the stage for
Reese Herrig, who doubled to bring in two runs and tie the game, 2–2. However, St. Catherine responded with six runs in the bottom of the second, taking an 8–2 lead.
Hamline managed to score two more runs in the third inning.
Maddie Johnson was hit by a pitch and later scored on a single by
Mikenna Johnson, while
Julia Sina added an RBI single to bring home
Brennan Reid. Despite these efforts, St. Catherine extended its lead with a three-run homer, making it 11–4. Hamline scored again in the fifth inning as
Brennan Reid crossed the plate on
Julia Sina's RBI single, but St. Catherine secured a 13–5 win after five innings.

Mikenna Johnson added two hits and drove in one run, while
Julia Sina recorded three hits and two RBIs, leading the team's offensive efforts.
Reese Herrig contributed with a double and two RBIs. On the mound,
Allison Boynton started, pitching 1 2/3 innings and allowing four hits and six earned runs while walking one.
Montana Miller entered in relief, pitching 2 1/3 innings and surrendering five hits and five earned runs.
In the second game, Hamline recorded only three hits over five innings, falling to St. Catherine 9-0. The teams remained scoreless through the first three innings, with
Josephine Cariveau and
Maddie Johnson each singling in the first inning but leaving two runners on base.
The fourth inning proved pivotal as St. Catherine scored nine runs. Helen McKinnon doubled and later scored on a double by Grace Swigart. A series of walks, a fielder's choice, and key hits, including a double by Kylee Kohout, led to multiple runs, culminating in a two-RBI single by Sam Aronson. The inning concluded with St. Catherine leading 9-0.
In the fifth inning,
Brie Bakke reached first on an error, followed by a single from
Reese Herrig, but Hamline was unable to capitalize. The game ended with St. Catherine securing a 9-0 victory.
Josephine Cariveau and
Maddie Johnson each contributed one hit, while
Reese Herrig rounded out the trio with a hit. On the mound,
Natalee Boelk pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing eight earned runs on five hits, while issuing one walk and hitting one batter.
Montana Miller entered in relief, pitching 2/3 of an inning and giving up one earned run on two hits.
