Seniors Take Charge In Pipers Split With Macalester For Season Finale At Home

ST. PAUL, Minn. — In a Saturday doubleheader, Hamline University baseball faced off against Macalester College, splitting the two games. The Pipers (12-27, 4-16) fell in the first game with a score of 6-3 but bounced back to secure a decisive 10-4 victory in the second game.

Hamline started strong in the first inning, with a two-run lead achieved through a walk to Ryan Burley and another to Maddex Van Slooten. Jack Rheineck's single to left field brought both runners home. Score: Hamline 2, Macalester 0. However, Macalester (25-13, 14-4) responded in the second inning, narrowing the gap to 2-1 with a run from Tristan Jones' double.

The pivotal moment came in the third inning when Macalester surged ahead with a four-run inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Josh Planko, shifting the score to 5-2. Macalester added another run in the fourth, extending their lead. Despite a late rally from Hamline, including a solo home run from Owen Giesen in the seventh, they couldn't close the gap. Final score: Macalester 6, Hamline 3.

Jack Rheineck drove in two runs, and Owen Giesen showcased his power with a home run and two hits. Ryan Burley reached base twice and scored, while Carter Hoff struck out three batters in relief. On the mound, Teagan Yotter pitched 3 innings, allowing 6 earned runs, and Lucas Mork delivered a strong performance in relief.

In the nightcap, Hamline bounced back with an explosive offensive display, scoring 10 runs on 17 hits. The Pipers took an early lead again with two runs in the first, thanks to RBIs from Alex Hokenson and Jacob Barmore

After Macalester tied the game in the third, Hamline responded with a six-run fourth inning. Key contributions came from Ryan Burley, Maddex Van Slooten, and Jacob Barmore, who combined for three runs during the inning. Stevie Schmitt and Bentley Casey added to the scoring, boosting Hamline to an 8-2 lead. Macalester managed to score two runs in the sixth, but Hamline maintained control with additional runs from Jacob Hasapopoulos' homer and a groundout from Tyler Peterson. Final score: Hamline 10, Macalester 4.
