ST. PAUL, Minn. — In a Saturday doubleheader, Hamline University baseball faced off against Macalester College, splitting the two games. The Pipers (12-27, 4-16) fell in the first game with a score of 6-3 but bounced back to secure a decisive 10-4 victory in the second game.
Hamline started strong in the first inning, with a two-run lead achieved through a walk to
Ryan Burley and another to
Maddex Van Slooten.
Jack Rheineck's single to left field brought both runners home. Score: Hamline 2, Macalester 0. However, Macalester (25-13, 14-4) responded in the second inning, narrowing the gap to 2-1 with a run from Tristan Jones' double.
The pivotal moment came in the third inning when Macalester surged ahead with a four-run inning, highlighted by a three-run homer from Josh Planko, shifting the score to 5-2. Macalester added another run in the fourth, extending their lead. Despite a late rally from Hamline, including a solo home run from
Owen Giesen in the seventh, they couldn't close the gap. Final score: Macalester 6, Hamline 3.
