Doug Amsden enters his 18th consecutive season as part of the Hamline Pipers baseball team, and his 14th season as an assistant coach. His primary responsibility is coaching the outfielders.
Doug was a four year starting centerfield from 1999-2002, twice being an All-MIAC selection (’00, ’01) as well as the team MVP and Gold Glove winner following the 2002 season. A career .330 hitter with 42 stolen bases, he hit .441 during the 2000 conference season and held five Piper baseball records when he finished his four years. He was also the first, and one of only two players, in Piper baseball history to reach 30 hits during the 20 game MIAC schedule.

Doug was also a two-time All-MIAC (’00, ’01) wide receiver on the Piper football team and finished his career with 103 receptions for 1402 yards and 11 TDs. In 2002, he was named Hamline’s Steve Lindgren Award winner which is given to the school’s outstanding senior male athlete.
In 2012, Doug was inducted to the Hamline University Athletic Hall of Fame.The North St. Paul native currently lives in Burnsville with his wife Valerie (Kelley ’03), son Carson and daughter Piper.
