This is Lisa Borowitz's second stint ... and sixth season overall ... as an assistant with the HU softball program.
Borowitz was a three-sport star at Concordia (St. Paul), earning All-NSIC honors in soccer, basketball and softball. In the latter sport, she made the first team twice as a hardhitting shortstop and was a member of the 2001 team that won the school's first NSIC championship in any sport. That helped earn a finalist spot for the annual Saint Paul Lions Club Female Athlete Of the Year. She won the honor at her college alma mater twice.
(Her assistant coach at the time was current HU mentor Jim Rubbelke.)
Her success as a hitting coach was on display in the 2016 season as the Pipers led the league with a .325 team batting average. Two Pipers -- Amanda Orrell and Mary-Clare Couillard topped the .400 mark while freshman C Aubree Douglas swated .361. The trio along with Jamie Rubbelke (who slugged 8 HR and hit .357 were named to the All-Conference team.
Lisa has also been successful as a high school coach. In 2004-05, she served as an assistant at St. Paul Johnson. The team won the St. Paul City Conference title both years, finishing fourth in the MSHSL AAA tournament in 2005.
She was elected to the NSIC Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014.
