Chase Duwenhoegger's timing was perfect. The junior unloaded his best shot put effort of the indoor track/field season last weekend -- some 55 feet in all -- and that proved to the best throw by any MIACer in the event. The first place finish adds to an excellent career that includes earning All-American status at the NCAA D-III Outdoor meet last May. 

Duwenhoegger's throw is the second best by a MIAC athlete this spring. Travis Jacobson, his teammate (and also a junior) went 55-5 in the season's first meet in January. That ranks fifth best among all D-III throwers. Duwenhoegger ranks eighth  nationally. A third Piper -- sophomore Eric Dols -- ranks third in the MIAC and 10th nationally. 

Jacobson and Dols joined Duwenhoegger in the All-American outdoor circle last spring. The trio appear to be on their way to having a chance for history to repeat itself at the NCAA D-III Indoor Meet next week in Chicago, Ill. The official invitations don't come out until Sunday. The Pipers have one more meet before nationals -- this Friday at St. Olaf.
