Scoring your first collegiate goal is a very memorable experience but imagine that goal being the game winner that clinches an MIAC home-playoff game in overtime.

Well, that is exactly what freshman forward Guillermo Bonilla did. The Farmington Minn. native took a pass from senior Trevor Tallaksen, broke away from the defender, and drove in the game winner at 4:24 of overtime to lift Hamline to a 1-0 win at St. John’s Friday.

Bonilla has been making a name for himself all year and continues to impress. He has appeared in 12 of the 16 games, started in three and has racked up 262 minutes.

The Bonilla goal improved the Pipers’ MIAC record to 6-2-1 and kept them in third place (19 points) in the standings. The win also guaranteed HU at least one home playoff game in the MIAC tournament starting October 31.

Hamline’s overall record is now 11-4-1. They close out the regular season Tuesday, October 24 against Gustavus Adolphus at Paterson Field (3:30 p.m.) . A win in the season finale would tie the school record for most wins in school history.
