One could hardly blame Hamline women's hockey senior forward Darby Dodds if she wished this weekend's NCAA Division III tournament was being played in St. Peter, Minn. instead of Northfield, Vermont. The senior tore up Don Roberts Rink as if she owned it, scoring a goal in the 4-12 win over host Gustavus Adolphus for the MISC title and then adding a pair last Saturday as the Pipers edged Wis-Eau Claire, 3-2m in a NCAA first round game there.

Linemates Bre Simon (55 points) and Sarah Bobrowski (54) have drawn a lot of attention this season. Dodds, however, is close behind with 17 goals and 32 assists for 49 points. The steady performer has had points in all but five games this season.

Last Saturday, Dodds opened the scoring 4:45 into the game. Later in the period, she finished a give and go with Bobrowski to make it 2-0 and the Pipers took it from there to improve to 21-4-3 and advance top the semifinals March 16 against host school (and No. 1 in the country) Norwich. It will be the final games of a magnificent two year run for the Byron, Minn. native, who has totaled 72 points in 54 career games at HU.

What better -- and more deserving -- stage to go out than to have a chance to win a national championship.
