Timing is everything. It has always seemed a good time to have Matt Eickman pitching for the Pipers in a baseball game.  But it was a great time to have him pitch the way he did against St. Olaf May 5. The junior was a  real streakstopper, halting a three-game losing skids in its tracks with a nifty two-hitter complete game in an 8-1 win. It was his second route-going effort of the week  and it kept the Pipers in fourth place in the MIAC with a 8-8 league standard.

Eickman gave up a first inning run to the Oles and a second inning hit. He then bore down to retire 20 of the last 23 batters he faced and let the Pipers bats take care of the rest. On April 30 at St. Mary's, he also went the route, giving up a three-run homer in the fourth inning but stifling the cards the rest of the way without a hit in a 6-4 victory. he is now 5-3 for the season and is expected to get at least one more start this week as the Pipers take aim on the MIAC baseball playoffs.
