Spencer Jones

A top singles and doubles player for the Pipers in the 1990s, Spencer Jones was named head coach for the Piper men’s and women’s tennis programs ahead of the 2019-20 season and is entering his sixth year in 2024-25.

Jones, who was an assistant coach at his alma mater for the 1998-99 season, comes to HU after three seasons guiding the fortunes of the Lakeville South boys team. During his tenure there, the Cougars finished in the top-10 in the state twice and advanced to the Class AA state tournament in 2019. The Cougars also had a doubles team advance to the doubles final in 2017 and a third place finish in 2018.

Jones, a native of Oshkosh, Wisconsin, played number one singles for the Pipers and captained the team for three seasons before graduating Magna Cum Laude with a B.A. in Political Science in 1997. After graduation, he has continued his excellent on-court play in the adult singles and doubles competitions, winning several USTA Northern singles and doubles tournaments.

In addition to his time at Lakeville South, Jones has served as a tennis pro in Madison, Wisconsin and at the Reed-Sweatt Tennis Center in Minneapolis. He also coached several championship youth teams at Lifetime Fitness in Bloomington, Minnesota.
