The Piper volleyball team's school record eight-match winning streak came to a halt Wednesday in a 3-0 home court loss to Concordia. The powerful Cobbers looked like anything but a team that had won just two of their eight non-conference matches in recording the decision.
Bolstered by an enthusiastic home crowd, the Pipers came out hard, grabbing the lead several times in a spirited Game 1. It was a defensive battle on both ends with both teams hitting well below their season averages. CC pulled away late for a 25-19 decision. the visitors carried the momentum into Game 2 for a 25-12 win and kept it up with the 25-11 decision to clinch the match. Karley Kilian led Hamline with four kills on offense. Lynsey Reimer had 16 digs and Frankie Miller had 10.
The Pipers did hold Concordia to a .168 hitting percentage, 36 points off their season average.
Hamline returns to action this weekend with a four-pack of games. This time, however, it's a short trip. The Pipers will face Luther and Bethany Lutheran on Friday and have rematches with Crown and Wis-Stout on Saturday in a tournament at St. Catherine's.
