For the Hamline men's soccer team, it turned out to be a well-spent Sunday afternoon at Paterson Field. Sam Studer, who had been inserted into the game seconds earlier, booted home the winning goal with 11:52 remaining to lift the Pipers to a 3-2 win over previously undefeated Buena Vista.
Michael Murphy and Abbai Habte also scored as the Pipers improved to 2-4-1 overall. BVU is now 4-1-0.
After allowing an early goal, HU began to attack with vigor. Murphy headed in a Sam Studer corner kick to get the equalizer at 42:07.
The Pipers wasted no time taking the edge in the second half when Habte, stationed in front of the goal, converted feeds from Jesse Hawker and Michael Ramirez at 48:58. The Beavers came back a dozen minutes later to tie the game but Studer then broke the tie for good with his third goal, a determined play that ended with a succesasful kick through traffic at the left of the goal.
Eric Feil recorded four saves, including a spectacular one with the game tied in the second half, to earn the win in goal.
Hamline continues a busy stretch of three game sin four days when they travel to Northwestern (Roseville) for a non-conference game Tuesday, September 18 at 4:00 p.m. Game time is 4:00 p.m.
