Second Half Outburst Sinks Mens BB

Box Score For 15 minutes, Hamline's men's basketball team had things going the way they wanted. they were tied with St. Thomas at 24 and were hanging with the No. 1 team in Division III stride for stride. 

But the Tommies hit six free throws to close the first half with a 30-27 edge and then broke away in the second half for a 81-46 decision at Anderson Center.

Noah Aguirre (at left) was the only HU player in double figures with 12 points. 

The Pipers shot a credible 44 percet (12-27) in the first half. But they fell off to 39 per cent (7-18) in the second half. Meanwhile, UST shot 68 per cent. As happened the first time these teams played, the Tommies also made hay at the free throw line, connecting on 16 of 19 efforts while HU went 7-10.

Hamline is now 7-12 overall, 4-10 in the MIAC.  HU has a pair of home games on the docket this week. Macalester visits Hutton Arena Wednesday, January 30 for a 7:30 p.m. game. Gustavus comes in Saturday for a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
