Box Score The HU volleyball team got the weekend off to a roaring start Friday. The Pipers treated a boisterous crowd to a solid effort, defeating Bethel, 3-1, to move into a tie for fifth place in the MIAC with a 4-3 mark.Â
Stephanie Kaup and
Paige Walters recorded 14 kills apiece and
Sam Greeney-Hamlin closed in on the 1,000 mark for her career with 13 as HU improved to 15-10 overall on the season.Â
The Pipers came out swinging, winning the first two sets by 25-20 and 25-19. The Royals came back to win the third set, 12-25 but Hamline rebounded for a 25-18 win to close out the night.Â
Greeney-Hamlin hit a solid .435 (13-3-23), topping a Piper attack that finished the night at a .231 clip.Â
Molly Hurrle moved over the 11 assist per set mark with 48 on the night. She ranks third in the MIAC at 11.01. Her total of 738 also ranks third in the league.Â
Lynsey Reimer, honored before the match for recording her 1,000th career dig two weeks ago, led a balanced dig brigade with 18.Â
Miquel Green was close behind with 17 followed byÂ
Jamie Rubbelke (14), Hurrle (12) andÂ
Amelia Jensen (11). The Pipers had 86 digs in all, their MIAC highwater mark and the third best effort of the season.
The Pipers have little time, however, to bask in the victory. They return to action Saturday at 3:00 p.m. at co-conference leader St. Thomas (21-2, 6-1 MIAC).Â
Hamline returns home next Wednesday to face St. Benedict (20-2, 5-2) at Hutton Arena in a 7:00 p.m. match.Â
