Box Score The Hamline volleyball team gave the crowd at Hutton Arena their money's worth Wednesday night. The Pipers rallied from a 2-0 set deficit to overcome Macalester, 3-2. It marked the first time since 2008 that HU had rallied after being down two sets. It also vaulted them into a three-way tie for fourth place with St.Benedict and Gustavus Adolphus with a 3-2 MIAC mark.
Hamline improved to 10-7 overall.Â
The Scots came out storming, hitting a .424 clip in the first set en route to a 25-20 victory. Despite a late Piper rally, they matched that score in the second set as well.
The tide began to turn in the third set as HU forged a 25-21 victory. Hamline grabbed a lead in the fourth set early but the Scots came back to make it tight. However, the Pipers held on for a 25-23 win to force a tiebreaker.Â
In the fifth set, it was tied at 11-11 whenÂ
Paige Walters went on a tear, recording three of the last four kills for a 15-11 verdict that decided the evening.Â
Sam Greeney-Hamlin went over the 900 mark for career kills with 16.Â
Caitlyn Gottwald added a dozen. Walters andÂ
Katie Ayres chipped in with 11 each.Â
Molly Hurrle had 55 assists, sixth best effort in school history and 15 digs. She ranks third in the league with an average of 10.68 assists per set.Â
Lynsey Reimer continued her climb up the all-time digs chart with 19. She currently has 940 for her three-year career here. She sits fifth in the league in digs per set at 4.73.
The Pipers now head west to play four matches in a tournament at Colorado College. They face La Verne and Nebraska Wesleyan on Friday. On Saturday, they play the host Tigers and then will either play for first or third place.Â
