Box Score Mary Chapin Carpenter once sang, "Let's give them something to talk about."

The Hamline volleyball team did just that Wednesday night as they chased No. 7 St. Benedict around Hutton Arena for a long time before losing, 3-1.

Caitlyn Gottwald (1) pounded out a dozen kills and Sam Greeney-Hamlin added 11 in a tense match that ended with HU barely on the short end of a tough match. Molly Hurrle had another double double with 39 assists and 16 digs. Lynsey Reimer led the defense with 25 digs while Jamie Rubbelke had 15 and Miquel Green registered 13.

HU got off to a rough start with a 13-25 loss in the first set. But they roared back to take an early lead and keep the Blazers at bay throughout the second set for a 25-21 win. It was just the 10th set that CSB had lost all season.

St. Ben's took charge late in the third set for a 17-25 win but the fourth one had the crowd buzzing. CSB grabbed an early lead only to see Hamline fight back and edge in front. It was tied 11 times in all and the Pipers fought off four match points before finally bowing, 27-29.

The Pipers remain tied for sixth place -- the last MIAC playof spot with a 4-5 conference slate. They stand 15-12 overall. HU plays at St. Catherine Saturday in a 3:00 p.m. match.
