Men's Soccer Makes It Three In a Row

10/30/2013 5:58:00 PM

Box Score The HU men's soccer team made their last appearance of 2013 at Paterson Field a game to remember.  Goals by Tyler Tallaksen and Michael Murphy (pictured) erased an early deficit to power the Pipers to a 2-1 win over St. Mary's on Halloween eve.

It was Hamline's third straight win and upped their season mark to 6-9-1 overall. The six wins ties the most by a HU men's soccer contingent in a season since 2005.

The Cardinals struck early, ending a long shutout string for HU goalie Derrick Mora just 5:03 into the game. Hamline struck back 16 minutes later when Tallaksen headed a feed from Gilbert Ghong perfectly for his second goal of the season.

After that, it was a matter of finding an opening to break the tie. As it developed, Murphy did just that, picking up the rebound of an Abbai Habte shot and burying it for his first goal of the season at 55:17.

Although HU ended the game with a 9-5 edge in shots, SMU did exert pressure in the late going. However, Mora and the defense held firm and the Pipers left the field with their second three-game winning streak of the season. Mora now stands second in the league with an .854 Save Percentage. Hamline's 2-6-1 MIAC mark puts them in eighth place.

The Pipers wrap up the season Saturday at regular season champion Gustavus Adolphus. Game time is 1:00 p.m.
