Box Score Hamline's men's soccer team gave St. Olaf all they could handle but they couldn't find the back of the net in a 1-0 loss Wednesday at Paterson Field.
The Pipers (3-6-1, 0-3-1) were outshot by just 10-6 and carried much of the play in the second half. But the Oles (9-2, 4-1) converted a rebound for an early second half goal that ended up being the game's only tally.
Joey Matesi continued to sparkle in goal for HU with nine saves. The freshman now ranks third in the MIAC in Save Percentage (.821) and fourth in Saves (46).
The first half was tight with neither team getting much of an advantage. The Ole goal four minutes into the second stanza, however, seemed to open the game up. Both teams had excellent scoring opportunities with the Pipers pressing hard at the end.
Jake Niemann and
Abbai Habte had two shots apiece to pace the balanced Piper attack.
Hamline returns to Paterson Field to face Concordia in the second half of a women's-men's doubleheader. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
