The Hamline volleyball team readied itself for the postseason by continuing to rewrite the record book. The Pipers defeated Carleton 3-1, in Northfield Friday to wrap up the regular season on a triumphant note. Hamline will take a 19-12 overall record and a 6-5 MIAC mark into a first round MIAC playoff matchup next Tuesday at St. Benedict.

Michelle Mattke (pictured in air) had a big night with 16 Kills, no errors and a .533 hitting percentage. Sam Greeney-Hamlin was close behind with 15 kills.

But it was the Piper defense that rose to the forefront in the 25-13, 22-25, 25-20, 25-14 decision over the Knights. Current MIAC AOW Molly Hurrle had 47 assists and Lynsey Reimer led a dogged back wall with 29 digs. Hurrle and Miquel Green added 15 digs each. HU finished the night with 94 total digs -- their second best output of the season.

HU also played solid defense upfront, recordin 16 blocks (also tying their second best effort of the year).

It added up to a win that tied a team record set in 1995. That year, however, the Pipers finished with a 19-20 mark and some of those decisions were in tournaments where two out of three matches were held.

Hamline finished with a winning MIAC season for the first time since 2007 -- the last time they made the playoffs. The year, they also finished sixth and lost in the first round at Concordia.

This time, they face the Blazers, a team they battled well in a 3-1 loss at Hutton Arena on October 23. The teams split the first two set. CSB won the third set but HU led several times in the fourth set before giving way for a 27-29 setback.
