Box Score Turns out the Hamline women's soccer team can play in the sunshine, too. The Pipers set a school record for MIAC victories in a season (6) with a solid 4-1 win over Gustavus Adolphus at Paterson Field Saturday.Â
Grace Nichols, Malya Hirshkowitz, Bri Garside andÂ
Alyssa Koulentis scored the goals as HU finished the season on a hot string, winning six and tying one in their final eight games of the saeason.
Hamline finished 9-6-1 overall on a day when they saluted five seniors (see picture) playing their last game.Â
Nichols broke the scoreless draw when she converted a feed from Hirshkowitz at 31:13.
Hirshkowitz then opened the gates wide when she nailed a free kick just 1:28 into the second half. Koulentis then set up Garside in the middle of the box at 58:00 and it was 3-0.
After the Gusties got on the board, Koulentis replied with a shot from outside the box to finish the scoring.Â
Erin Urbanowicz played 89:44 of the game in goal (senior
Molly Jacobs started) to earn the win. She finished the season with the league's top goals-against average (0.70). Her eight goals allowed is the fewest of all MIAC regulars.Â
Hamline's 6-4-1 league mark placed them in sixth place -- just one win from a playoff spot. The Pipers also defended their turf well, posting a 6-1-1 mark at Paterson Field.Â
